You are an overcomer!

Some may wonder how I was able to make it through some of the tough times in my life, how we all make it through the tough times, but I guess that I can only speak for myself. And I can only say, BUT GOD. Yes, if it had not been for the Lord, I would not be standing before you today, whole, in my right mind, alive, and truly blessed.

Even when I look back just a year ago, I can see evidence of God’s power, getting me through. Prayer, faith, and perseverance were the tools that kept me while things were absolutely CRAZY at times. So, you may wonder specifics of how I remain grounded in the midst of turmoil. My answer is Routine, routine, routine.

Like clockwork, I did the same basic thing week in and week out. My body was used to maintaining activity, participating in worship, praying, and supporting my husband.

So, when adversity came, I allowed God to take over the wheel and with His hand at the controls, I was able to make it through the tough times.

So, I stand before you today, an overcomer. Not because of my own strength, but because I gave up and allowed God to take over.

Even now, I sometimes see myself trying to do things on my own, and once again, I see that in my own strength, I can make a mess of things, but when I pray and hand it over to God, He straightens it out. I have to remind myself to relax, and trust in the Lord and pray, then look for direction from above.

I Peter 5:5-6 “be clothed with humility, for God resists the proud, But gives grace to the humble.”, Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you in due time.

When I’m at work I try to think about how I interact with customers as well as my coworkers, I try to speak to others as much as possible with love and be “clothed in humility” while I interact with others. You never know what others are going through, and some people may be one step from devastation or perhaps contemplation of suicide. We must try to build up each other with our words and not tear each other apart, and that includes those who are under your roof.

Before I became an overcomer, I had to start thinking like an overcomer. You must first believe that you will overcome, before the manifestation. Positive thinking will get you to the other side. I spent years suffering with mental illness before I got to the point where my life shifted. I had to “see” myself whole and well before it actually happened. I had to see myself thin before I got to the size that I desired. I had to see myself operating optimally at work before it actually happened. But in every case, I believed that the Lord could get me there. I trusted that in His timing, it would happen. And even when things came about that cast doubt in my mind, I still trusted in His Word, by reading it and solidifying what I knew it said, “whatever is born of God, overcomes the world.”

Remember, talk like you are an overcomer, think like you are an overcomer, then you will live like an overcomer.
